This decompression set that can be installed on the steering wheel which helps drivers cope with their stress while driving, thus improves the problem of traffic jams by reduce driver's road rage.
The ideas
Traffic accident is a dangerous social phenomenon in a lot of large cities worldwide. Indeed, the cause of the traffic accidents is various. For instance, traffic accidents might be caused by drunk driving, fatigue driving and intensity of drivers. However, after having had several dangerous driving experience I identified another source that causes traffic accidents---Road Rage. Road rage means the discontent of drivers while driving vehicles, directed towards other vehicles'drivers in the street. Usually, road rage will cause aggressive driving behaviours like exceeding the speed limit, randomly changing driving lanes. All these bad driving habits may provoke the traffic accidents. So after identifying this cause, I decide to find a way to solve this problem. After searching on internet I found out that a decompression ball is a very good solution to solve all sorts of psychological problems. While people are angry or in a bad mood, they unleash their stress by squeezing the decompression ball. So, I decide to make a similar gadget on the steering wheels of the car which can help drivers comfort their bad mood while driving.
The initiatives
First of all I did some investigation on the internet and in books. Through the investigation, I found that a majority of drivers did not realize the problems caused by the psychological symptoms of road rage. Over 48.1% of the drivers get angry because of the various situations of the traffic and nearly half of the serious car accidents in China are caused by drivers' bad mentality. These data show that most drivers nowadays are influenced by external factors related to the traffic, and have bad driving behaviors. And these behaviors will cause some traffic accidents, which will aggravate traffic congestion. Therefore, the psychological problem of road rage affects urban traffic congestion and increases the incidence of traffic accidents. I conducted a survey among three hundred and twenty nine people (including drivers and passengers). It is founded that 83.1 percent of drivers and passengers admit that they have road rage or they have observed someone else’s road rage. Therefore, I designed a decompression set that can be installed on the steering wheel which helps drivers cope with their stress while driving, thus improves the problem of traffic jams. The outer part of the decompression set is made of coarse silicon gel since the rough texture enhance the fraction between the hand and the decompression set which makes it safer while driving. For the inner part, we use silicon gel hose. After doing some observation we found that the hose is flexible and able to rebound which helps drivers unleash their stress better. We believe that this decompression set will solve the traffic jam problem efficiently.
