In our video we want to:
• Show safe and dangerous attitudes
• Compare good habits versus bad behaviour
• Analyse the way from home to school to observe safety on this stretch
The ideas
Most of the students wanted to address the bicycle issue, because they felt it was closer to their personal experience. The theme of cycling safety was chosen because in the city of Burgos there have been some cases where cyclist have been knocked down, and they were concerned about how to avoid these accidents where possible.
It was decided that in the video three easily-remembered goals would be stressed: wear a helmet, cross the road with caution and ride in the cycle lane when possible.
The initiatives
We are showing our video to our mates on our secondary school`s screen and Comuneros' web:
It was decided that in the video three easily-remembered goals would be stressed: wear a helmet, cross the road with caution and ride in the cycle lane when possible.
Firstly, always wear a helmet, regardless of age and whether or not it is mandatory.
Secondly, focus on crossing. Dismount and move cautiously in those areas, try to concentrate and anticipate possible dangerous situations, especially if the rider is joining the ride with friends.
Thirdly, try to ride in the cycle lane in single file, at a normal speed, not very fast, because at any moment a child or an elderly person can cross the bike lane.
It is considered that the video is direct and its message easy to understand, so other students can easily get the message and advice without long and boring lectures. We looked to create a dynamic video, more appropriate for teenagers, comparing good and bad habits as a struggle for survival: exaggerated but funny.
