This project aims to discuss problems related to urban accessibility for people with disabilities and we used social networks to raise awareness on this problem and as platform to discuss and exchange solutions that can make the city more inclusive.

The lack of accessibility is one of the greatest difficulties for people with disabilities to move around the streets and avenues. Narrow sidewalks, without a ramp and poorly adapted. In addition, it is possible to observe negligence in the means of public transport and lack of social empathy, which greatly impacts the lack of accessibility. According to IBGE data, only 4.7% of sidewalks are accessible for people with physical disabilities throughout Brazil. In addition, there are still many stores that do not have an access ramp, only stairs at the entrance, which prevents them from shopping and carrying out various daily activities.
Law No. 10,098 of 12/19/2000 establishes general rules and basic criteria for the promotion of accessibility for people with disabilities or with reduced mobility, by removing barriers and obstacles on public roads and spaces, in the urban furniture, construction and renovation of buildings and means of transport and communication. Despite the existence of the law, it is possible to verify its low application.
In Instagram we created s short survey in which we asked people if they knew that 10% of the word population, 23,9% of the Brazilian population and 20,5% of the population of Curitiba has some kind of disability. As we were expecting, 84% were not aware of this reality. Also our survey asked people to share with us streets and establishments that were not adapted to people with disabilities.

Inclusive cities and inclusive mobility are truly important and the city government is responsible to make reforms and change public structures.
We created a proposal to be sent to the municipal authorities, in which we remind the importance of making the necessary adaptations in the city infrastructures that are in Law No. 10,098 of 12/19/2000, because unfortunately many clauses of this law are not yet applied, such as access ramps in stores and streets. If the building does not comply with the requirements of accessibility stated in the law, they should have given a period to make the adjustments. If they do not occur, they should be fined with 2,000 to 200,000 R$, depending on the size of the company and the number of employees. The money collected from the fines should be used to improve accessibility for the disabled people. We also advise installing more exclusive bus lines to be used by people with disabilities. In this bus you must have employees able to assist during boarding, travel and help people to enter and get out of the bus in safety.
Other idea that we had was promoting an “online kitty” that would raise funds to make the necessary adaptations in transportation, sidewalks, among others.
We created a poster and we shared it in Instagram and we posted in this social network our ideas that would improve the accessibility for people with disabilities. In stories, we invite the followers to indicate places that are not adapted to people with some kind of disability. In addition, we opened a question boxes to hear the opinion and new ideas of the citizens.
