The Road and Me is an educational programme for 7 to 11 year-old children. It provides teachers with a set of tools to use in class to cover the topics of road safety and sustainable mobility.
The programme is tailored to the children’s ages and mobility habits:
- The educational programme designed for 7-8 year-olds is aimed mainly at child pedestrians, car passengers and bicycle riders. Using a simple, fun approach, pupils learn the basic notions of safety and are aware of the importance of sustainable modes of transportation, which help protect the environment and are good for their health.
- The 9-11 year-old group learns about the risks associated with roads and how to protect themselves. Pupils also explore specific topics related to using natural resources and preserving the environment.
The Road and Me programme was set up in 2000 and has been successfully run by teachers in many countries. It raises awareness among future adults at the age where they pick up habits.
