The Road and Me is an educational program for children aged 7 to 11 years old. It offers a set of teaching tools allowing teachers to address in the classroom the themes of road safety and sustainable mobility: teacher's sheets, student workbooks, quizzes, poster, as well as games and applications which are available for free.
The program is adapted to the age of the children and to the mobility habits specific to these stages of development.
The education offered to 7-9-year olds is mainly aimed at child pedestrians, car passengers and bicycle riders. Through a simple and entertaining approach, students discover the basics essential to their safety, and are aware of the importance of sustainable modes of transportation, which help protect the environment and are good for their health.
The approach for 10-11-year olds focuses on knowledge of the risks associated with the road and ways to protect themselves. Students also explore specific themes related to the use of natural resources and the preservation of the environment.
The Road and Me program was created in 2000 and has been successfully deployed by teachers in many countries. It helps to educate and train children at the age when their own habits and values are shaped. By educating students about the risks and practices of moving safely on the road, it prepares them to be active participants in college and high school programs, such as Your Ideas Your Initiatives.
